It is the South American headquarters of a network of Vajrayana Tibetan Buddhism Centers founded by His Eminence Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche in 1995. After his passing in 2002, the temples came to be spiritually directed by his wife, Chagdud Khadro. Its name in Tibetan comes from the syllables that make it up: KHA-means SKY; DRO means TO MOVE , TO GO , TO DANCE, KHADRO is the translation of DAKINI , a word associated with an aspect of enlightened energy in feminine form. LING, in turn, means place. A POSSIBLE TRANSLATION OF KHADRO LING IS “ ABODE OF THE FEMALE SKY WANDERERS”. All the residents are practitioners of TIBETAN BUDDHISM, and they all came to prioritize spiritual practice , helping with the daily activities needed for the upkeep of the FUNDAÇÃO CHAGDUD GONPA. The Temple’s structure is maintained by donations-OPTIONAL DONATIONS
On arrival we can see this beautiful building, standing out among the clouds, which seems to be floating. The colors, shapes, lights and the air of the place lead us to contemplation; in other words, it is a place where the energy gives us an intense inner peace.
THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE PLACE IS IMPRESSIVE:
The main building of the complex is already beautiful on the outside. Inside, then, it is a spectacle of details and colors. The wealth of details and ornaments is impressive, ranging from the walls to the utensils, and even to the ceiling.
FLAGS : Arranged in the shape of a wheel , they are inscribed with mantras, which are meant to be carried to the rest of the world, by the wind that blows at the site
PRAYER WHEELS : Prayer Wheels are used in Religious Practices. Inside them are Mantras printed or engraved in Sanskrit that energize the environment as they are moved. Tibetans believe that when you turn the Prayer Wheel , instead of reciting just one Mantra, you are reciting all the thousands of Mantras contained in the scroll inside the Wheel! This greatly increases your energy. These Mantras are usually meant to promote Happiness, Prosperity and Spiritual Fulfillment.
STUPAS: The word stupa comes from Sanskrit and means “mound”. A stupa is a Buddhist monument that represents the universe and the mind of enlightened beings. It is shaped like a tower, usually conical, and is built over the mortal remains of a person important to the Buddhist religion. Its construction predates BUDDHISM, and it can be a sepulchral monument, a burial site, a receptacle for religious objects and AN ARCHITECTURAL REPRESENTATION OF THE COSMOS or THEY REPRESENT THE EIGHT PHASES OF BUDDHA’S LIFE . At the temple there are 08 of them; their decoration is white and gold. To bring enlightenment to the mind, one should walk around them all the way in a clockwise direction.
STATUES: THEY REPRESENT THE DEITIES OF THE BUDDHIST RELIGION
1-STATUE OF THE BUDDHA AKSHOBIA: He is the Buddha of the eastern direction, blue in color, leader of the Vajra family. His consort is Pandaravasini, although Locana may also be indicated. As the Buddha of the eastern direction, Akshobya’s practices are generally related to birth. It is the most beautiful statue at the site , highly ornate with a wealth of details, and its colors are blue and pink
2-STATUE OF GURU RINPOCHE– he was one of the main masters to bring Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet. He is considered the second Buddha, or the Buddha of Tibet. The statue is located in the lowest part of the complex, next to the Prayer Wheels.
3-GARDEN OF THE 21 TARAS :The goddess Tara is a female deity of Vajrayana Buddhism, who symbolizes compassion and the feminine emanation of the Buddha. For Tibetans, Tara is known as Drol Ma or Jetsün Dólmã, which means “Savior” , she represents supreme generosity. The beautiful garden has, in its central part, a kind of kiosk where the 21 statues stand. The 21 statues of Tara were carved in sandstone, by artists from Orissa, in India.
TERRA PURA TEMPLE: Terra Pura is the only replica of the celestial abode of Padmasambava (a building that was the abode of Rinpoche). It was inspired by the Zangdok Palri monastery in the Dzogchen valley, in Tibet. A stunning building with architecture in the traditional western style. The site houses the Stupa with the ashes of Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche, as well as panels on the walls that illustrate and tell his story.
TEMPLE BOOKSTORE: Below the main temple there is a small shop and bookstore. There you can find literary works about Buddhism and religious items related to this belief.
The Khadro Ling Buddhist temple is a non-profit organization, where visits are free of charge. However, voluntary cash contributions are accepted.
