MERKABAH TURISMO takes you to this ECOTOURISM AND RURAL TOURISM destination! We will spend three days in contact with the lush nature of this paradise, located in the far northeast of Rio Grande do Sul, about 285 km from Porto Alegre. THE TOWN IS THE HIGHEST IN THE STATE. Its Geography surprises us, and on this trip, WE WILL SEE THE PICO DO MONTE NEGRO (1.403 M), GREAT CANYONS, RARITIES OF NATURE AND IMPRESSIVE WATERFALLS.

Located in the Campos de Cima da Serra region, the town borders Santa Catarina and is marked by high-altitude landscapes, native grasslands, araucaria forests and rock walls.

The climate is one of the great attractions. IT IS CONSIDERED ONE OF THE COLDEST TOWNS IN BRAZIL, with frequently below-zero temperatures in winter, constant frosts and the possibility of snow. IN ADDITION, THE FAMOUS “CERRAÇÃO” (THICK FOG) IS AN ALMOST DAILY PHENOMENON IN THE REGION, TURNING THE TOURS INTO EXPERIENCES FULL OF MYSTERY AND SURPRISES AT EVERY MOMENT!

ITINERARY:

DAY 1, OCTOBER 10, 2026-SATURDAY

07:00 Departure from POA –Meeting at the Hotel or at Largo ZUMBI DOS PALMARES

08:45 / 09:00 approximately, in SÃO FRANCISCO DE PAULA, we will make a stop at the delicious CAFÉ DA TAINHAS-OPTIONAL, NOT INCLUDED   

After coffee we will take a 2km walk around the beautiful LAGO SÃO BERNARDO, a place of peace, fresh air and tranquility. It is one of the postcard sights of São Chico. THE FAMOUS LAKE has on its shores the wonderful historic building of HOTEL CAVALINHO BRANCO, a former casino built in 1930, renovated after the 70s to become this welcoming hotel.

12:00 ARRIVAL IN SÃO JOSE DOS AUSENTES

On arrival we will visit VALE DAS TRUTAS- A RUSTIC AND COZY RETREAT, located 10 km from downtown. FAMOUS FOR STARTING RAINBOW TROUT FARMING in the region, it offers chalets, a restaurant specializing in the fish, pay-per-catch fishing, trails and waterfalls

We will take a trail to CACHOEIRA DO JUVENAL (easy access); it was the setting of the film A CASA DAS SETE MULHERES and is the starting point to the other lush waterfall, CACHOEIRA DAS SETE MULHERES, which has an excellent pool for bathing and a dazzling cascade, flanked by large rock walls – Light access of around 30 minutes- Easy level /around 01:00

16:00 Departure towards MIRANTE DA SERRA DA ROCINHA, one of the most spectacular and challenging routes in Southern Brazil -Located at the TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN RANGE, at 1230 meters, it has an antenna and a HANG GLIDING RAMP. It offers visitors a COMPLETE VIEW OF THE ROAD, THE COASTAL PLAIN AND THE CANYONS THAT DIVIDE SC AND RGS.

After the visit to the Mirante, departure to POUSADA POTREIRINHOS-CHECK IN AND DINNER (INCLUDED)-It is a TRADITIONAL FARM HOTEL located in the district of Silveira. It offers an AUTHENTIC RURAL TOURISM EXPERIENCE IN THE SERRA GAÚCHA, standing out for its natural beauty, homemade cuisine and proximity to the famous DESNÍVEL DOS RIOS.

DAY 2, OCTOBER 11, 2026-SUNDAY

BREAKFAST AT THE FARM-INCLUDED 

09:00 Departure to see the LUSH PICO AND CÂNION MONTENEGRO-The Pico and the Cânion Monte Negro form one of the MOST IMPRESSIVE SCENERIES IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL. They are home to the highest point in the state, at 1403 METERS OF ALTITUDE. ACCESS IS FREE AND OPEN.

THE PEAK: It is on the edge of the canyon. It is marked by a weather station and a flag. The trail from the parking lot is short (about 200 meters of climb) and considered easy.

THE CANYON: It is about 700 METERS DEEP AND 4 KM LONG. The upper part is in RS and the lower part in the municipality of Morro Grande (SC). On clear days, you can see towns in Santa Catarina and even the sea line in the background.

INFRASTRUCTURE: The area is natural and public, WITH NO FENCES OR SUPPORT STRUCTURES, SO EXTRA CARE IS NEEDED AT THE EDGES.

10:00 VISIT TO FAZENDA MONTENEGRO-FREE ACCESS  -It is a TRADITIONAL RURAL TOURISM RETREAT located just 4 km from Pico Monte Negro. Offering chalets and rooms with wood-burning stoves, it is KNOWN FOR ITS MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPES, ARAUCARIA VALLEYS, horseback rides and the experience of authentic ranch work

12:00 VISIT TO POUSADA DOS RODRIGUES AND CACHOEIRÃO DOS RODRIGUES –NOT INCLUDED-OPTIONAL ACCESS –R$ 10,00 PER PERSON 

It is accessed through FAZENDA DOS RODRIGUES –IT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE WATERFALLS OF THE CAMPOS DE CIMA DA SERRA. It stands out for its 28 METERS OF HEIGHT AND A HUGE CURTAIN OF WATER 100 METERS WIDE on the Rio Silveira; the access trail is easy, and the site was the setting for the SOAP OPERA “O PROFETA” BY GLOBO

Afterwards we will hike through the region- around 01 km after Cachoeirão dos Rodrigues. The medium-level trail, which passes through streams and native forest, will take us to see THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, ICONIC AND LUSH MASTERPIECES OF NATURE- THE CACHOEIRAS DO PUMA AND DO FUNIL, located in the area of the Silveira district; both are excellent options for those seeking direct contact with nature and breathtaking landscapes.

CACHOEIRA DO PUMA-Famous for its grandeur, it is located in the bed of the Rio Silveira itself. It is possible to walk along the top of the falls, enjoy the natural pools and bathe in the crystal-clear waters when the river level is lower.

CACHOEIRA DO FUNIL  has an exotic and peculiar look, being somewhat smaller in water volume, but with a unique setting. Its great distinguishing feature is the tall rock walls that line the waterfall on both sides in the lower part, forming a small and very beautiful canyon. Its access is considered relatively easy and short from the base where the trail begins inside the forest. The waters of this waterfall come from a stream that flows right into the Rio Silveira

DAY 3 -OCTOBER 12, 2026-MONDAY

09:00 VISIT TO THE TOURIST SPOTS OF FAZENDA POTREIRINHOS-

We will do the TRILHA DO MORRO MARACAJÁ- It is a moderate-level walk of short length (about 200 meters after the Desnível dos Rios). The route includes crossing the Rio Silveira on foot (knee-deep water) and offers a spectacular view.

DESNÍVEL DOS RIOS-IT IS A UNIQUE GEOLOGICAL FAULT WHERE THE RIO DIVISA AND THE RIO SILVEIRA run parallel, SEPARATED BY A NATURAL BASALT ROCK WALL AND WITH A DROP OF UP TO 18 METERS IN HEIGHT BETWEEN THEM. Without meeting, THE TWO RIVERS FLOW SIDE BY SIDE, SEPARATED ONLY BY THE 18-METER ROCK. Note: There is a short trail of approximately 200 meters and you need to cross one of the rivers on foot (the water may reach knee height) with the help of ropes to get to the exact point of the drop.

CASCATA DOS DEZ- Its name comes from its 10 SEQUENTIAL WATERFALLS. The trail is about 4 km (round trip)-The route can be done on foot or on horseback and includes three river crossings. The difficulty level is Moderate for most of the route. The final stretch to the base is classified as difficult. There are natural pools suitable for bathing at the top. However, swimming at the base of the falls is not recommended due to the depth of the pool, which reaches 6 meters. The best time to visit is between ten and 14:00

It is the pax’s responsibility to present an ID document at boarding; those who do not carry one will not be able to board and there will be no refund by the Contracted Party
